Our Programs

Camp Clot Not

“Camp Clot Not” is a weeklong summer camp held each summer at Children’s Harbor in Eclectic, Alabama. Our camp program is designed for children between the ages of 6-18 who have been diagnosed with Hemophilia, von Willebrand’s Disease, or as a symptomatic carrier of Hemophilia, all of which are inherited bleeding disorders.

The children who attend this camp will experience and participate in activities that they would perhaps never get to experience otherwise, such as: tubing, team-building activities, canoeing, fishing, arts & crafts, swimming, and archery. Our camp program offers these children the incredible gift of being able to connect with other children who are experiencing the same life challenges because of their bleeding disorder. For one week, these children “fit in” because all of the children attending this camp are “just like them”. These children make friendships while at camp that will last a lifetime. All of this happens in a very controlled setting where experienced medical professionals are always on site.

Our camp has volunteer medical staff that is trained in specialty infusion and work with patients with bleeding disorders on a frequent basis. One of the main objectives of this camp is to teach these children about their bleeding disorders to help equip them to become self-sufficient and independent adults. While at camp, these children have the opportunity to learn self-infusion. This is vital to their independence because the medication required to treat their condition is administered intravenously. “Camp Clot Not” plays a key role in boosting their self-esteem, fostering their independence, and helping them realize that with a positive attitude anything is possible.

Camp Harvest
“Camp Harvest”, our Family Educational Weekend is often referred to as “Family Camp”. Our members have shared with us that this event has brought the bleeding disorders community in Alabama together as one big family.

Camp Harvest, held in October, at Children’s Harbor on beautiful Lake Martin in Alexander City, Alabama, provides a haven for learning, exploring, and bonding. It’s a place where young and old alike, are able to share life experiences among others who experience the same daily challenges of living with a bleeding disorder. At Camp Harvest our families receive important educational information that empowers them to take charge of their disorder. Our pharmaceutical and home care partners are on hand to answer questions as they relate to treatment options, new products, and information relating to healthy lifestyle choices for those affected with bleeding disorders. Like the leaves that turn in fall, Camp Harvest has been a “turning” point for many of our children and families.

Don’t miss out! Camp Harvest is for HBDA members only, and space is limited. If you are not already a member of the HBDA family, please consider joining now, so you can benefit from the opportunities available through a membership.
